Google Page Rank
Every Internet marketer should have the Google toolbar installed and enabled to show Page Rank. Not only do you need it to see what rank Google is giving your own pages, it is nice to know what Page Rank your competitors have. If you don’t have it yet, simply do a search for “Google toolbar” and you’ll find its download.
• Page rank is determined by the quantity and quality of incoming links to your site. Quality is emphasized more; one link from a PR 5 site is probably worth 20 links from sites with 0 and 1 page ranks. Of course the page linking to yours has to be in the same niche (or close) as yours for the link to count.
• Google places a LOT of importance in their page rank algorithm. Having great page rank is not a guarantee of ranking well, but it sure helps.
• A well optimized PR 1 page can out-rank a less optimized PR 2 page for a given keyword. Therefore, don’t be completely discouraged if many of your competitors have higher page rank.
• Google is constantly adjusting PR of all sites. HOWEVER, they only update the tool bar 4 or 5 times a year. Therefore, there is no need to worry about PR on a day to day basis. Also, Google sees PR in tenths. For example, although your site may only show a PR of 1 in the bar, it could have a PR of 1.1 or 1.9.
• Page rank is algorithmic. This means that a PR 2 page is 10 times “better” than a PR 1 page! Imagine how difficult it is to get a page to PR 5 or more!
How to gain Page Rank:
• Link all your pages to one another from within the content of the site’s pages…not just the with the navigation bar. Use relevant anchor text which occurs within the content to link to other pages.
• Submit your site to as many directories as possible. Always submit your link to categories related to your niche when possible.
• Submit articles to article directories such as Ezinearticles with your site’s link in the bio area.
• If there is a chance some relevant sites may link to your site if you ask them, ask them!
• Trading links with other sites doesn’t help much anymore. If you do trade links, only trade with sites relevant to yours.
• The BEST way to gain page rank is to create great content people will WANT to link to!
Don’t be too preoccupied with Page Rank; all new sites start with zero! Stay focused on creating a quality site and you will see PR increase!
