Choosing and Using Proper Keywords

If I had to list all Internet Marketing concepts in order of importance, keywords along with SEO would be number one. The proper use of keyword terms are necessary for success with a new Internet business!

Keywords are words (or usually phrases) which people type into search engines. When looking for information about TV's, I may type "flat panel televisions" into Google. If you have a site about TV's, and one page is optimized for the keyword "flat panel televisions", I may find your site in Google!

Back Porch Income goes into great detail on the use of keywords. But in a nutshell, here is what you need to know:

*

You must use keyword tracking tools to determine what the keywords are people are using with reference to your product or service. These tools (many are free) list how many searches per month are done with each word or phrase.
*

Next, check each of the potential keywords in an exact phrase search in Google to find out how much competition there is for that term. If there is too much, try another keyword term. My book goes into detail about this technique.
*

After choosing some great keywords, create and optimize one page for each keyword. Do not try to optimize for more than one keyword per page.
*

Link to that page from within your other pages' content using the keyword in the link.
*

Using keywords correctly is a little more complicated than this, but I have outlined here the basic ideas of keyword usage.
