How to Create a Successful Website
First, if you DO NOT know how to create a website, be aware that the many wizards and templates which offer to make the process simply do not work well because of the bloated and duplicate code they produce.
Google DOES NOT like duplicate content!
Page Creation Tips
* It is MUCH better in the long run if you learn web design yourself (It's not that hard!)
* If you pay someone, MAKE SURE they understand search engine optimization!
* Make sure not to do ANYTHING that might get your site banned by Google!
* Design every page for humans and search engines.
* Keep the site simple and functional.
* No Flash files or fancy scripts should be used.
* Be sure EVERY page has easy navigation on it.
* Pictures should generally be no larger than 20 to 40k. Optimize larger ones!
* No page should be larger than 100k in total. Use free tools to check the load speeds. Each page should load in 3 or 4 seconds at most on broadband.
* Don't try to impress people with your site design skills.
* Don't use design methods which will lower your rankings OR get your site banned!
* Content is considered King to the search engines. Your new online business will need quality content pages of original, keyword rich content in order to rank well. Content pages generally need to be 250 to 800 words.
* Each page should have a unique, short, keyword specific title (the name seen at the top of the browser window).
* Meta tags are fine to use (Google basically ignores them now though), but make sure you KNOW the correct way to use them. Not using them is much better than using them the wrong way.
* Each page should be optimized for one and ONLY one keyword phrase. You must learn how to choose keywords and how to optimize for them.
* Have someone else proof your site.
* Look at your site in other computers. Different configurations and browsers can cause problems with an incorrectly designed site.
* Don't fall for online scams when attempting to promote your site!
